High risk Campaign 17V311000 · announced 11/05/2017 (8 years ago)

1. Wheels / tires

What's wrong, in plain English: A wheel or tire can fail while driving. The Rockstar wheels were installed with lugnuts that may crack and detach.

What could happen: Lugnuts that crack and detach may cause the wheels to separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement lugnuts, free of charge. The recall began June 23, 2017. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET's number for this recall is SET17A.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2013 SEQUOIA.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Toyota dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 17V311000 (manufacturer code SET17A).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-866-405-4226.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

Due to a latent defect, Toyota's chrome lug nuts swell such that the lug wrench no longer fits the nuts. I alerted my Toyota dealership in Peoria, Illinois…
