How to read a recall

A recall means the manufacturer or NHTSA found a safety defect in a batch of vehicles. Three things matter: how dangerous it is (we grade each one), whether the fix exists yet, and whether your specific car is included — which only a VIN check can tell you. The repair itself is always free under US federal law.
