1. Airbags

What's wrong, in plain English: The airbag system — the part that is supposed to protect you in a crash. The driver's seat side air bag may have been improperly mounted to the seatback frame. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

What could happen: An improperly mounted air bag may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

The fix: Dealers will inspect and reinstall the air bag as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 17, 2024. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 69GA.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 SQ8.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Audi dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 23V868000 (manufacturer code 69GA).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-253-2834.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

What's wrong, in plain English: The rear camera may not show an image when reversing. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended. What could happen: A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
