1. Trailer Hitches

What's wrong, in plain English: A vehicle part that may fail. The trailer hitch assembly bolts may loosen and cause the assembly to separate from the vehicle body during towing or normal driving conditions.

What could happen: A detached trailer hitch assembly can create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will tighten the trailer hitch bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 4, 2025. Mazda's number for this recall is 7225C.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2024 CX-50.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Mazda dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 25V167000 (manufacturer code 7225C).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
