1 safety recall, most serious first

High risk Campaign 17V415000 · announced 29/06/2017 (7 years ago)

1. Steering

What's wrong, in plain English: If steering fails you can lose control of the car. The right-hand side tie rod lock nut may loosen over time.

What could happen: If the lock nut loosens, the tie rod may separate causing a loss of steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the lock nut and, if it is found loose, replace the lock nut, steering gear assembly, and tie rod assembly, free of charge. The recall began on July 26, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is HLC.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2017 ES350.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Lexus dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 17V415000 (manufacturer code HLC).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-331-4331.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
