2004 Jaguar X-Type recalls & complaints
Source: NHTSA, updated daily. Last checked 2026-10-18. Recalls apply to specific VINs — run your VIN to confirm.
1 safety recall, most serious first
1. Fuel system
What's wrong, in plain English: Fuel lines, tank or pump. Fuel problems usually mean a leak, and leaks mean fire risk. ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, WHEN REPLACE THE FUEL FILLER CAP TO THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK FILLER NECK, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVER-TIGHTEN THE CAP INDUCING A POOR SEAL. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ROLL-OVER, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR FUEL TO LEAK PAST THE FUEL FILLER CAP.
What could happen: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
The fix: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE FUEL CAP SEALS AND FIT BETTER QUALITY SEALS ONTO THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 1, 2004. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2004 X-TYPE.
- Book a repair at any authorized Jaguar dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 04V460000.
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-452-4827.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH ONLY 54,000 MILES ON THIS JAGUAR, THAT IS NOT NORMAL AS I HAVE OWNED JAGUAR CARS FOR 3 DECADES. ALSO THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE OCCURRED AT 55,000 MILES WHICH IS THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR TWO WEEKS WITHOUT ANY MOVEMENTS. THIS VEHICLE DRIVES LESS THAN 3000 MILES A YEAR NOW AND I'M SUPER DISAPPOINTED IN THI…
