1. Electrical system

What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 ST1300PA, 2014-2015 CB500, CBR500, CRF250L, CBR650, CTX700, NSS300, VT750, VT1300, 2015 CB300F, CBR300, CBR600, and 2014-2016 NC700 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, sealant may have been incorrectly applied to the starter relay switch, and as a result, the electrical system may have a loss of power.

What could happen: A loss of electrical power may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace any affected starter relay switch, free of charge. The recall began on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is JS9 and JT0.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2015 VT1300.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Honda dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 15V439000 (manufacturer code JS9 and JT0).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-866-784-1870.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

I PUT 19-MILES ON MY NEW HONDA INTERSTATE 1300 MOTORCYCLE. I WENT TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INTO THE SIDE OF MY NEIGHBOR'S BRICK HOUSE! I WENT FROM ZERO TO OH MY GOD HOLD ON FOR THE RIDE!
