2 safety recalls, most serious first
1. Fuel system
What's wrong, in plain English: Fuel lines, tank or pump. Fuel problems usually mean a leak, and leaks mean fire risk. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Honda CBR500 motorcycles manufactured January 24, 2013, to May 14, 2015, and 2013-2015 CB500 motorcycles manufactured January 31, 2013, to May 16, 2015. The affected motorcycles may experience the fuel level sensor float arm becoming deformed due to exposure to environmental and roadway conditions. This deformation can cause the float arm to…
What could happen: If the float arm separates from the sensor body, it can give the fuel meter inaccurate information, or in some cases the float may contact the positive and negative terminals causing an electrical short. Either condition may cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel level sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-310-783-2000. Honda's number for this recall is JT1.
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2015 CB500.
- Book a repair at any authorized Honda dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 15V475000 (manufacturer code JT1).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-310-783-2000.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

THERE WAS A RECALL, STARTING MARCH 2014 FOR ROCKER ARM RETAINING BOLT. MY BOLT CAME OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT, ALLOWING SHAFT TO COME PART WAY OUT ALONG WITH SOME OIL. BOLT IS GONE, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THREADS ARE RUINED. I AM GLAD ENGINE DID NOT LOCK UP AS IT IS A MOTORCYCLE.
