1 safety recall, most serious first

1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. FAN BLADE RIVET BREAKAGE CAN OCCUR CAUSING THE FAN BLADE TO SEPARATE FROM THE SPIDER.

What could happen: IF THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE HOOD WAS OPEN, A PERSON WORKING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE OR IN THE VICINITY OF THE VEHICLE COULD BE STRUCK BY THE FAN BLADE AND INJURED.

The fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE, IF NECESSARY, THE FAN WITH A NEWER FAN HAVING THICKER-HEADED RIVETS.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 1995 S15.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized GMC dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 95V180000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
