High risk Campaign 99V126000 · announced 19/05/1999 (26 years ago)

1. Latches / locks

What's wrong, in plain English: Doors, hood or trunk may open unexpectedly. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CHEVROLET AND GMC G VANS EQUIPPED WITH SLIDING SIDE DOORS AND REMEDIED DURING SAFETY CAMPAIGN (95V197/95-C-58) BETWEEN JULY 18, 1997 AND FEBRUARY 6, 1999. THE SLIDING SIDE-DOOR REAR LATCH WAS REPLACED WITH A LATCH THAT WAS IMPROPERLY RIVETED.

What could happen: IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE DOOR MAY NOT PERFORM AS REQUIRED AND INCREASED INJURIES COULD RESULT.

The fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SLIDING DOOR REAR LATCH.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 1995 G20.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized GMC dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 99V126000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
