1. Equipment

What's wrong, in plain English: A part or accessory supplied with the vehicle. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Forest River Prime Time recreational trailers. The Federal Placard incorrectly states that the tire pressure should be 65PSI when the correct tire pressure is 80PSI. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

What could happen: The incorrect tire information may cause the operator to underinflate the tire, leading to premature tire wear and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Forest River will notify owners and will provide a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on July 24, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-862-1025. Forest River's number for this recall is 48-0756.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2016 PRIME TIME.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Forest River dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 18V414000 (manufacturer code 48-0756).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-574-862-1025.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.

THE EXTERNAL LED LIGHTING ON THIS AVENGER TRAVEL TRAILER WERE IN USE AND STARTED A FIRE THAT BURNED THROUGH THE PLASTIC CASING. THIS CAUSED THE AWNING ABOVE TO HAVE SMOKE DAMAGE. LUCKILY WE CAUGHT IT IN TIME THAT THE AWNING OR TRAILER DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF A TRAILER.
