1. Equipment
What's wrong, in plain English: A part or accessory supplied with the vehicle. The affected vehicles are equipped with shower curtains that may not adequately resist catching fire in the presence of an ignition source. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 302, "Flammability of Interior Materials."
What could happen: A flammable shower curtain may further fuel a fire, increasing the risk of injury.
The fix: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shower curtains with curtains made with fire retardant, free of charge. The recall began on September 12, 2016. Owners may contact Dynamax customer service at 1-574-262-3474, Pursuit customer service at 1-574-825-8305 (east of the Mississippi) or 1-574-82…
What to do
- Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2016 FREELANDER.
- Book a repair at any authorized Forest River dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 16V552000 (manufacturer code 51-07152016-0225).
- The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
- Manufacturer hotline: 1-574-262-3474.
- Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
