High risk Campaign 18V524000 · announced 09/08/2018 (8 years ago)

1. Electrical system

What's wrong, in plain English: Wiring, modules, batteries. Short circuits can cause stalls or fires. The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

What could happen: A vehicle stall can increase the risk of a crash.

The fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began October 2, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U87.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2018 500X.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized Fiat dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 18V524000 (manufacturer code U87).
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-853-1403.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
