High risk Campaign 25V194000 · announced 27/03/2025 (-135 days ago)

1. Steering

What's wrong, in plain English: If steering fails you can lose control of the car. The steering damper may have a loose valve pin within the housing, which can cause an unexpected increase in steering effort.

What could happen: An unexpected increase in steering effort can result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: Dealers will replace the steering damper, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 5, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2025 M 1000 XR.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 25V194000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-800-525-7417.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
