2 safety recalls, most serious first

High risk Campaign 12E029000 · announced 10/08/2012 (14 years ago)

1. Engine

What's wrong, in plain English: Engine problems range from stalling to fire. A metal-oxide semiconductor may overheat due to insufficient screwing of the semiconductor on the aluminum heat sink. This primary failure could cause adjacent components on the fan assembly motor circuit board to overheat and short.

What could happen: This condition could cause the fan motor to become inoperative, or cause the motor circuit board in the assembly to overheat, potentially leading to a fire in the engine compartment.

The fix: Valeo will notify owners and replace the fans free of charge. The safety recall began on August 22, 2012. This recall is being conducted by Valeo, not by BMW. For further information, owners may contact Valeo at 1-888-718-2536.

What to do

  1. Check whether your car is affected: enter your 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. A recall covers specific VINs, not every 2007 3 SERIES.
  2. Book a repair at any authorized BMW dealer. Quote NHTSA campaign 12E029000.
  3. The repair is free. By US law, safety recall repairs cost the owner nothing, no matter the car's age or mileage.
  4. Manufacturer hotline: 1-888-718-2536.
  5. Buying this car used? Ask the seller for proof the recall was completed, or run the VIN yourself before paying.
